This free-standing piece was inspired by Max Ernst's Dadaist drawing Little Machine Constructed by Minimax Dadamax (1919-20, Peggy Guggenheim Collection, Venice). Although Ernst's sexually charged drawing discusses the impotence of war and the machine-like quality of humans when under duress, the choice and placement of the three particular shapes in bonjour hint at a more optimistic worldview.
