World Tree, 2010
wood, linen, oil, aluminum
58 x 13 x 19.5 in
Selected for Toronto's Peak Gallery You-Tube-It competition, World Tree was designed to fit into a FedEx messenger tube. Although the work's configurations and colour combinations are endless, the intended arrangement is that of a multi-directional signpost: a metaphor for all types of communication (international, local, individual). The wooden bars can represent airplane trajectories; electronic pathways; personal journeys within the mind. In addition, since the bars are stacked vertically like a ladder, an alternate but equally powerful message is one of transcendence. Through meditation and manipulation, the viewer is invited to bring order, balance and beauty to modern day chaos.
